For Immediate Release: Treatment Facility Overflow
A treatment facility overflow has occurred at the City of Montreal’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The overflow occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on 8/24/2018 and lasted until approximately 2 p.m. on 8/24/2018. This overflow was located at the wet well. It is estimated that approximately 95000 gallons of sewage spilled over onto the grounds of the treatment plant property.
A high amount of inflow was experienced due to large amount of rain in a very short period. The rain gauge at the Treatment Plant recorded 4.5 inches of rainfall during the event. The City of Montreal Public Works personnel responded to the incident, and have addressed the overflow to limit damage the treatment plant and to limit harm to the public and the environment.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been notified. Pursuant to the requirements of NR 210, this press release is being issued regarding this event. The City is working to make improvements to its treatment plant to limit these types of incidents in the future. Residents are encouraged to make sure that sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary sewer system. This will assist in reducing flow amounts.
