Discussion was held regarding the “No Parking” signs on Nimikon which have been put in place recently. Business owners had concerns about losing business over this and had recently met with the Mayor regarding this. They felt they had not been informed properly. There was conversation regarding plowing so there is additional space to get through in the winter. There was also discussion as to private plow drivers pushing snow onto the street which makes it difficult for everyone.  Motion by Thomas, supported by Swartz to get rid of the “No Parking” signs and send letters to private residents that have their snow plowed regarding pushing snow into the roads.  Motion Carried.  All Ayes.

There was discussion held on a Proposal from Hydrocorp for services to Montreal on Cross Connection. This item was tabled as the quote was incorrect.

Discussion was had regarding the hiring of a new Assessor. Steve Norquist was in the audience and introduced himself and explained his services.  Motion by Swartz, supported by Levra to hire Steve Norquist as the City Assessor for a cost of $4,000.00 per year which will begin in the year 2020.  Motion Carried. All Ayes.

Two proposals for tree removal in areas of Montreal were presented to the Council.  Motion by Berglund, supported by Thomas to hire Beever Tree Service at the cost of $1,100.00 to remove 10 trees. Motion Carried.  All Ayes.

An update was given on the water system by Mayor Guenard.  There are several issues which need addressing to include rehab of pumps, Well Number 5 to be reopened, Chem Feed Metering and other issues. There are presently loans available at low interest rates and the City would be looking at a cost of approximately $123,000.00. Motion by Berglund, supported by Thomas to move ahead with the Well Rehabilitation projects.  Motion Carried. All Ayes.

There were no bids for the Washington Street lots.  There was discussion on dropping the minimum price and listing it with a realtor.  Motion by Levra, supported by Thomas to list the 2 parcels with a realtor, at $1,000.00 per lot with a minimum cost of home at $150,000.00 with a time limit of 2 years to build. If owner does not build, property will revert back to the City and the property owner will get 50% of purchase fee back. This will be a nontransferable transaction.  Motion Carried. All Ayes.

The Hamilton street project was discussed as the Contractor did not have the intersection of No 4. Road included. It will cost the city an additional $5,000.00 which the city is requiring a change order presented.

Steve Schurtter-South Shore Oil building, why is it not being kept clean? 32 Michigan Ave. looks like the slums and is a junkyard.  It was nice watching the Paavo Nurmi Marathon runners go by his residence on Michigan Ave.

Dale Wicklund-what is being done about the blight on 32 Michigan.

Standpipes and meters have been repaired

Maintenance has been done on pumps

There have been issues with the loader

The crew got the Brush mower from Iron Belt and have been doing brushing

There have been some problems with resident’s sewer laterals

The culvert on Hamilton was put in; they hauled 620 tons of gravel for the FEMA project

Quebic is graded and level

Positive steps are being taken within the City. A thank you to the Crew for preparing the City for the Paavo Nurmi Marathon.

Motion by Thomas, supported by Levra to adjourn meeting. Meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM

Respectfully submitted by,

Susan Lesky
