The COVID-19 disease is now in our communities, and we have begun the community spread portion of the virus. As residents of Hurley and Montreal, we directly influence whether we allow this virus to spread or take the necessary precautions to limit exposure to our community, families, and neighbors. On July 15th, the Iron Count Public Health Department posted an emergency mask advisory in Iron County. Together as the Mayors of Hurley and Montreal, we would like to reiterate the importance of using a mask in public spaces. We also would like to go one step further and ask our residents not to treat this as an advisory but to ask you to require that everyone in your family and yourself use a mask when you leave your residence. If you do not need to leave your home, then please shelter in place to stop the spread of this virus.
This request does not come lightly but does come with the interests of protecting our residents and our businesses that make up our community. Please take advantage of our local businesses and order your food to go, make quick trips to gather what you need, and maintain your social distance with your mask.
Together we will persevere and maintain our local economy and livelihood. Every soul is valued in our communities, so let’s step toward respecting our neighbors, businesses, and health as we move forward together.
